The 2006 Evening Show Brass Band Competition is underway...

Victoria's brass fraternity are busy polishing anything and everything, as well as practising their instruments, as they line up to participate in this year's competition.

Last year we re-instated the competition after the Moreland Brass Band found an old Brassband shield in their band room. Along the way, we came up with a new trophy, and decided to award a listeners' trophy as well, and now we're ready to do it all again.

Over five Wednesday nights, Victoria's five A-grade brass bands will each take their turn playing live to air at 8pm. During each performance, a panel of judges will offer their thoughts, and you'll be able to vote too via our web page.

Here's the schedule of who'll be playing when -

June 7 - Darebin City Band Review their performance
June 14 - Kew Band Melbourne Review their performance and cast your vote here
June 21 - Footscray and Yarraville Band
    June 28 - Hawthorn Band
July 5 - Moreland City Band

This year our judges will include Trevor Green from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Ken MacDonald who used to play with the Grimethorpe and Black Dyke Mills bands in the UK, and Rebecca Barnard - otherwise known as a pop star of some magnitude...

There'll be a big finale on the 26th of July - stay listening for details of how to get tickets... And in the meantime, why not pull out that old cornet or B flat Tuba languishing in the back of the wardrobe and play along with the bands from last year's finale.
