The parts have been handed out, but thats about it.
There's been a lot of discussion about this on the Viz and Vizcaya threads.

Blown through Coventry Variations twice with a local band, although I dont think they will start serious work on it till Januray. Any first section banders are advised to get hold of a part and take it home over christmas as there are some tricky bits in this. It is definately a challenge for the first section and will sort the class bands from the rest.

Run through Vizcaya twice I think- just to give us a flavour!
Quite a nice piece actually! :D

Had a look through Coventry variations for a laugh, i reckon its the best piece for the 1st section in a while. (not that that i have a great knowledge of pieces used for the 1st section regionals!)

We've already sort of started properly practising ours, (Kaleidoscope) we're hoping to move back up to 1st section again next year after our drop this year and we've got a contest before that as well so we're hoping to get it really good!! :D

does anyone know of any potential slip up points in coventry variations for the percussion section?

As for percussion it is pretty much based around the blitz. So syncopation and effects are the keys to the piece.

Trust Me..................Count your heart out. Keep your concentration. this is the time that we as percussionists are gonna finally have our time to shine ! ! ! !

    sure will,

but I think it's worth pointing out that for anyone who doesn't have the area CD, that the order is:

    1. Vizcaya
    2,3,4. Partita
    5. kaleidoscope
    6. Coventry Variations
    7. Tristan Encounters

Not sure if this was a mistake or not, but Vizcaya and Partita are the wrong way round in the order of the section testpieces.</anorac moment>
