Has anyone else been on 4barsrest? The thing about the Euros?

I got half way through reading it before I realised that it was April 1st!

It is a joke right? I've not just written this and made a monumental fool of myself?!

There is indeed an ancient instrument called the carynx. Trombonist John Kenney has a particular interest in it, I believe. I also recall reading somewhere that modern reconstructions are in very short supply.

Despite this, I think your analysis (above) is correct!

Lost my Tomtom, MP3 player, Bluetooth, car radio and prescription sunglasses. Interesting the lovely little person nicked my sunglasses - I've got a very strong prescription so he's got one hell of a headache now!

Lesson learned; never leave anything in your car, even in the NCP. However, I'm not too upset. Everything can be replaced and I didn't lose anything of personal value. The crack addict who nicked my gear has got a lot more problems than I have and I'm too long in the tooth to be angry at something I can't do anything about.

Anyway, back on topic. I had a look at 4BR's article and enjoyed it. It's not without a grain of possibility though. My old mate John Kenny is a trombonist specialising in unusual performance techniques and he has spent some years learning to play the Carnyx and released a CD of Carnyx music a couple of years ago.

I also thought immediately of John Kenny, and although rather suspicious it is not that far beyond belief, in the light to other requirements from time to time - bottles filled with various amounts of water, for example.

Mind you, I seem to recall a proms interval talk a few years ago about the search to find some obscure instrument - and player - for a premiere, that was also almost believable.
