Corby Silver Band would like to announce the appointment of Geoff Riseley as their new Musical Director. Geoff started playing the cornet aged 5 in the local Salvation Army. When he was 20 he joined Towcester Studio Band conducted then by William “ Bill “ Scholes, who was to have a profound effect on Geoff’s musical life, as he made him Bandmaster and he stayed for many years learning from the great man. He then joined Leicester Foresters where he played back row cornet, with his son playing Solo cornet. A few years later he joined Moulton Studio Band where he continued his conducting career, taking them through to the 2nd section National Finals and various other successes at different contests. He then went on to conduct Rushden Mission and helped to take them to musical areas they had never attained before. He gave up conducting after that and joined Raunds Temperance Band playing Eb Bass, but was then invited to take Brackley Band to the Pontins contest, which rekindled the conducting bug. Geoff enjoys being with his family, has three grandchildren, still finding time to play principal Euphonium with the Sixties Club Band. So it is with great pleasure that we welcome Geoff to Corby Silver Band.
