I'm thinking of taking some time off work to do assignments at college and to watch the Snooker. I really want Mark Selby to win. Who do you want to win?:)

I want anyone to win who is an underdog.

I'd like to see John Higgins to retain his title (and be the first person ever to do so in the process)

It's been quite a while since someone retained their title, and Higgins made a pretty good start with the toughest of first round ties.

Personally, I'd like Stephen Hendry to win his 8th title, and its not outwith the realms of possibility, after having ground out a 10-9 after being down 6-3 and 9-7. Two others that have a good chance are Selby and Maguire.

The standards of play are so good now, that there will be about a dozen players who will realistically fancy their chances.

My prediction is out of the window already!! But thats the beauty of the world championships. Longer matches and standard of players are so high it could be anyones.

I think what you meant is if John Higgins was to win he would be the first person to do so since Stephen Hendry in 1996

Are the 3 davis' mentioned in dyl's post related or is Davis just a lucky name in snooker.

Joe and Fred Davis are brothers. Fred being the younger of the two.;)

What you probably meant is that no first time winner of the world championship has ever retained his title the following year - in the modern game anyway (this includes the era of Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry). Back in the days of Joe Davis, there were just a handful of players, and he was miles ahead of anyone else in terms of playing standard.

There is no single player these days who can dominate the game, as there are far more talented players around. Ronnie O'Sullivan possibly has the capability to do it if he was more consistent.
