OK, a thread I read and commented in today has prompted me to consider running a local (and unofficial) tMP golf challenge.

Would anyone out there be interested in a fun golf challenge if I were to set one up here on one of the many fabulous golf courses somewhere around Newport? Who knows... could be an annual event... a fun event... a laff...(especially with me playing) but I am willing to arrange something if enough people were interested.

This is just a sort of thinking-out-loud-on-a-forum type post to ascertain if there would be any interest in tMP'ers travelling here for this type of event - after all.. I have travelled to Yorkshire, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Prestatyn etc. for tMP events so having another one here would suit me fine . If not.. no worries... if so... great  - get posting in here to let me know.

I have no idea of the how, what, when etc... but it sure would be a great thing to do. If there is enough of an interest I can let you have details, price, course etc.

Reply here if you're interested - two names already who are me and my lad (forget his tMP username).

    Who knows?

You know you can definately count me in. Might be a good idea to have it when there's guaranteed better weather but i'm up for it.
There are a few other tMP'ers i know are keen golfers so will ask them too.

But only if it's "Michael" or "Theopholus" or something suitably masculine ;) <jokes>
Sounds great fun - anyone fancy doing it in Dublin?

Are beginners welcome?! I want to learn to play! A friend and I have been tlaking about going to have a go. I did used to have my own set of clubs when I was about 9 and could get round nine holes in a modest 8735 shots. I'd love to try properly as I think I'd be great....maybe I could just caddy to save the tournament lasting a good 14 days!

Of course, all good tournaments need loads of spectators and the obligatory commentator. Club rules permitting of course.

In the same way "I own a trombone, therefore I am a trombone player", I own a set of golf clubs and therefore am a golfer...

Count me in to receive more details...

    Bagsy me!!

Am off to Brighton in January to study journalism, with the intention of specialising in Sport eventually. 'tis a pity it took 3 years of sports reporting at university while studying engineering that that's what I wanted to do!!

Someone has to come last and I am volunteering for that position now. This sounds good to me, especially John, if we can get everyone to come to the wonderful local area that is Newport!! Now, remind me, is this the game in which you have to get the ball, over the hill, between the turrets and through the portcullis.....oh, that may be crazy golf. Maybe a tMP crazy golf tournament could be held at the same time for those that may not be up to 18 holes. Plenty of good golf clubs around Newport , John and I know that a few are open to party competitions as we had one every year in my cricket club and always used a local course.
