Cowes Concert Band’s 60th anniversary has proved one of the band’s most successful years to date.Since the start of the year the Isle of Wight band has been boosted by seven new recruits and has raised more than £2,000 in a campaign to raise funds for new instruments. The cornet section has been swelled by four new players and members have also been recruited on tenor horn, bass trombone and Eb bass. The funds for much-needed new instruments have mainly come from successful grant applications to local businesses.Musical Director Andy Norman said: “We have had a tremendous year and are delighted to have attracted so many new players – most of them have returned to banding after several years of not playing and they are pleased to be back on the brass band scene.“Our fundraising campaign is going extremely well and will continue into next year.”The band is just about to start a series of four Christmas concerts at churches across the Island.
