For those of you who are not familiar with Rex Richardson (which I would guess is quite a number of people on here - he isn't nearly as well known as he should be), I would like to comment on this incredible performer - just to give you a flavour of what to expect.
Rex is simply an incredible musician. He is a true crossover artist, equally at home in the classical or jazz world.
I have been lucky enough to hear Rex perform a number of times (and even perform with him a couple of times) as well as seeing him give workshops and masterclasses. I have never seen anyone with such a command of their instrument in both the jazz and classical languages. A virtuoso of the highest calibre who is an inspiration to all those who encounter him.
He has just returned to the States after a week's residency at Trinity College of Music where he blew everyone away with his concerto for trumpet, brass ensemble and rhythm section - simply astonishing.
