Aldbourne band is excited to announce two players that have joined the ranks.

David Johnson has joined on Principal Euphonium. David began playing the baritone at the age of 9 in Penzance Silver Band under the direction of Claude Nicolas David swiftly moved on to a REAL instrument, the Euphonium. At 16 David joined the Royal Marines Band Service at Deal in Kent. After successfully completing nearly 3 years training he emerged as a Euphonium and Cellist. David has spent time at the Staff Band at the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal, Plymouth and the Lympstone Royal Marines Bands. He has also great experience of West of England Bands having played for Yeovil Town Band and Lanner, and has also gained conducting experience with Torbay Brass, Bodmin and also other bands in Devon and Cornwall.

This September David was drafted to the Royal Marines Band Portsmouth (Royal Band) as Principal Euphonium.

Ian Barnes has re-joined on Cornet. Ian joined the Aldbourne Training Band in 1972 and played for the Band on Cornet and Flugel for 28 years. He then spent a period playing Flugel for Wantage Silver when his children started playing in the Wantage training bands. Ian re-joined Aldbourne Band in November and has been playing front-row Cornet. Ian also plays in a versatile rock, blues, reggae, and soul band “Premium Banana” performing at occasions including Private Parties, Wedding Receptions and Dances.

Both players will play their first contests next year at the Yeovil Entertainment Contest in February when under the direction of Steve Sykes the Band returns to the Championship Section. Then the Band will be getting to grips with the wonderfully exciting “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”, and “Harmony Music” for the Regionals and Blackpool.
