Becontree Brass Band, "2nd Best Band in the London Borough of Redbridge", are pleased to announce through quality signings!

Alan Duguid has joined the band on Solo Cornet, and will also take on the role of Assistant Musical Director- working with MD Graham Sheldon.

A native of Aberdeen, Alan was born in 1982 and soon began showing a keen
musical interest through playing the piano and trumpet. At the age of 14, he
joined the cornet rank of his local brass band, Bon-Accord Silver, where his
    association with banding began.

His first notable conducting engagement at the age of 17 with the Learig
Orchestra and soon after this he became the Resident Conductor of Bon-Accord
Silver, the band he played with. He studied for his undergraduate and
postgraduate degrees at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama from
2000-2005, studying composition with Dr Gordon McPherson and Rory Boyle and
    conducting with Alasdair Mitchell.

After moving to Glasgow, Alan joined the ranks of the Kirkintilloch band and
regularly conducted many ensembles in the area including the Glasgow
University Wind Band, the Bathgate Band, Newtongrange Silver Band, Kingdom
Brass, Clydebank Burgh and Shotts St Patrick's Brass. In 2001, Alan won the
Scottish heat of the NABBC Conductor Competition, going on to represent
Scotland at the NABBC finals in 2003.

As well as conducting groups in Scotland, Alan has had the great fortune to
work with ensembles as far afield as Japan, which he has visited on many
occasions working with the Tokyo Brass Concord and several wind bands in the
    surrounding area.

Alan moved to London in January 2006 after studying briefly for 3 months in
Tokyo and is currently the MD of the Woodbridge Excelsior Band. He chose to join Becontree as the monthly subs are cheap, and because he can’t go anywhere else as he is currently playing the MD’s own cornet!

The band are particularly looking forward to the forthcoming area contest in March, and are hoping to improve on their 10th place at last years contest- their first in the 1st Section. Strengthening has recently taken place, in particular in the cornet section- where only one member of the existing section took place in last year’s event! The band is also fielding a new improved horn line up this year. Sadly our troms, euphs/bari’s, and basses remain the same- but we can’t let that get us down too much!
2006 promises to be a busy year for the band, as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. A CD launch is planned for later in the year, together with prestigious concerts taking place in Ilford, Bournemouth, Leigh on Sea, and Barking.
Further information can be found on the bands website:
(Although don’t bother looking at it yet, as its down until we’ve paid our site designers invoice!) ;)
