    Hello.

How do you go about identifying the age of an instrument? My friend has an old Boosey & Hawkes Sovereign tenor horn and wants to know how old it is. Can he find out from the serial number? Does anyone know when they stopped making the old round stamp Sovereign horns?

Also there's a small stamped letter 'H' on the inner side of the main bell, a couple of inches above the main join at the bottom of the bell - does anyone know what this means?

    Thank you in anticipation.

    Bill

The link below used to work with Besson & B&H instruments, but I had problems a year ago using the site, but found Besson very helpful on a one to one basis:

Found this page (I converted it to Microsoft Excel XLS format) that may be useful Bill.
