I have an AS trumpet student that needs a theme and repertoire for his recital. He is currently working at grade 7 standard. I was thinking of an American composers theme - and then hopefully he can include a mix of classical and jazz. It should last around 10 minutes.

Anyone got any advice on trumpet solos (with piano accomp) available that might fit into this theme? Similarly if you have used a different theme before that works, please let me konw.

Portrait of a Trumpet - Sammy Nestico
Rondo for Lifey - Leonard Bernstein
    Reflections - Jim Stephenson

All of the above - not fiendishly difficult, but very effective short pieces (have had students perform all of them for recitals in the recent past)

If you are ever in need of a theme - "trumpet music through the ages" is always a good catch-all

Pick pieces the student can play well, and then look for a theme to link them. This way you can avoid the theme 'trumpet solos that are a bit too hard for me'
