A "grand" night for charity with Burbage (Buxton)

  1. The Burbage Band of Buxton held the latest in a series of charity concerts at the Palace Hotel in Buxton on Friday 2nd October. This time the beneficiaries were nominated to be three local rescue charities, namely the East Midlands Air Ambulance, Buxton Mountain Rescue and Derbyshire Cave Rescue. The band gave their services freely and covered the cost of advertising, while the hotel donated the use of the room, to ensure as much money as possible went to the good causes. The band played to a packed hall and raised well over £1000 for the charities.

Musical Director Steve Critchlow explained that in organising the concerts the band not only wanted to help other good causes, but to encourage new audiences to hear the band who otherwise might not attend one of their concerts, and to generate some good publicity for the band within the community as well as adding to the portfolio of formal concerts the band performs. Earlier in the year the band performed a similar event for High Peak Homestart, a charity helping young families, and was able to donate nearly £500 to them

Steve Critchlow commented "its great to play to a packed hall, especially when so many of the faces in the audience are new, as it gives us chance to broaden our reputation. We picked a programme designed to entertain and were very warmly received. We are delighted with the response of the public and hope to be able to perform some more charity concerts next year"
