A bit nearer to the date probably as I really think that the adjudicator's should be the "icing on the cake" - the opportunity to perform a solo piece with accompaniment in front of a supportive audience in a pleasant environment is what should matter most I believe.

    Adjudicator's Announced!

I am delighted to announce that the adjudicator's for the 2nd Forestof Dean Solo, Duet and Quartet Contest have been confirmed and are both fellow tmp'ers - Sharon Stansfield and Alan McRae.

Sharon Stansfield FVCM (Hons) is a full-time music tutor. Working Freelance, she offers home tuition at her music studio in the Nottingham area. Sharon is also the highly regarded Musical Director for the Long Eaton Silver Prize Band.

Sharon recently adjudicated at the Leicester BBA Spring Solo, Duet and Quartet Contest where her fair and encouraging comments were extremely well received by all of the competitors, parents and teacher's alike.

Alan McRae, who hails from Scotland but now resides in Bath, is the Musical Director of the Gillingham Band. Alan holds a BA (Hons) in Band Studies from Sheffield Uni where he studied under Richard Evans, Arthur Butterworth and Darrol Barry. He has previously adjudicated solos, duets and quartets at Oxford and District BBA contest, as well as at an entertainment contest in Dorset, "Brassed Off at the Swan" - 12 weeks of full 2 hour concerts which he says "made it interesting to try an sort out the winners over a 12 week period!"

Entry forms for the contest are available by emailing Kristyann@ksymonds.fsnet.co.uk

Just a quick update to let you all know that we have had to change the venue due to a MASSIVE hike in letting charges at the school. The venue is now Coleford Community Centre which is actually better situated as it is in the town.

Also, the rules have been amended to allow players to play TWICE in the quartet class (but obviously with a different quartet), which should enable those bands who are stuggling to find 8 different players to play in the quartets can still compete, if you know what I mean. Hopefully this won't mean that bands push the rule and play 3 of the same players with 1 new player!!!

    Hi all,

I have just received an email asking if percussionists can enter any sections. As there are no specific percussion classes (this year) tuned percussion may be played in the OPEN classes (slow melody and air vaire) but percusssion equipment will NOT be supplied, competitor's will need to provide their own.

So, if any budding young Simone Rebello's wish to perform "A Little Prayer" or "Czardas" then now's your chance!

CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS 8th JUNE 2007.

  8. will accompaniment be provided and what are the costs have they changed with the venue?

Sorry to be a pain, just need to confirm,

    Thanks

    Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that the closing date for entries for this contest is this FRIDAY (8th June)

Entries are going well in the junior classes but it appears all the over 16's have gone shy! So more entries in the open classes (either from adults or ambitious juniors!) would be welcomed

PM me if you need a schedule

    SOLO SUCCESS IN THE FOREST!
