Excellent, always a good local day this one, hopefully we'll see a few more bands in section 'A' this year 2nd and 1st section bands!

What a shame that this is on the same day as the National Youth Championships at the RNCM. Will mean that Sellers Youth won't be there (as we normally are - it usually falls a week or 2 before, enabling us to give our test piece a run out) and may cause problems for other bands.

I don't like to be negative, but these sorts of clashes seem to happen quite often. I know its difficult organising events like this, and I'm very grateful to the dedicated people who work tirelessly, often with little thanks, but surely its time to have some sort of official 'brass band calendar' to try and avoid clashes.

I'll let Alan know Mark, thanks for the heads up - I know he spends ages looking at the various contests, hall bookings and Easter! to find the best date.

Hi All, Following discussions about the date of next years Pogson Bray contest it has been decided to keep it where it is. With Various Area's, Easter and other local contests all around that time it is not feasable to move it.

We will of course greatly miss our regular supporters in the youth section Sellers, and wish you all the best in the Youth Championships.

Providing there is interest from bands the Pogson Bray will still run three sections, Youth, 4th & 3rd section and 2nd, 1st and Champ section. An Adjudicator will be announced shortly, along with the always generous prize money at this friendly, welcoming Yorkshire Contest.

    Pogson Bray Contest

    Hi Gary

Thank you for the notification of the contest. As it does clash with the National Youth Band Championships I fear this may cause difficulties for several graded bands who have younger players who are connected with youth bands.

It may also affect some adult players (parents) who will be supporting their youngsters at the Youth Chammpionships.

However, I appreciate it is difficult when organising such contests to please everyone.

This is also true, I know Al and the team struggle with the date issue every year, I'm sure it would be better for the long term success of the contest if it were say on the 3rd Sat in April - but with Easter floating around.

Maybe it will encourage a different selection of bands from the norm. Again, i'll take this back to Alan and the team.

Yep I'll update everyone. As it's an Open Adjudication I cant' see any problems with knowing who's there etc

Section C - Sisset Youth (and the winners will be?)

Section B - Linthwaite, Lofthouse 2000, HARBE, Emley

Section A - Emley, Grange Moor, Metham

The Contest will start at 11am with the Youth section. There will be a 20 interval between sections B and A. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. The Draw is at 10am, all sections drawn at the same time.

Especially Low turn out this year, anyone want to make some suggestions as to the direction we should be taking to up this. Next year we could have a bar on-site if people thought this would be an encourageing factor it is a shame there's only the dinning hall for the bandsmen to socialise in. . .

Again - Perc enquires to me.

    See you all there.

Get a bar on, some topless barmaids and free ale.. that will boost numbers !:guiness

From what I listened to, I can't say too much about the adjudicator, seemed to have everything pretty right.

So everyone that came won something. What a great outcome!
