    Happy New Year !

    For 2012
FMFK has been asked to help develop a Brass Band template for the scoring application MuseScore
We welcome any thoughts the community may have about what may be required.
The Template will be based on the Brass Band template currently available as a separate download from FMFK.

For example... what percussion should be default on the Brass Band template...
additionally the template will be pre panned with cornets left, trombones right etc
But.... Where do we want the Flugal ? so often placed in differing positions within our layouts.

Do we want a Principal cornet stave additional to the Solo Cornets ? ...

A custom Brass Band edition of MuseScore could also be a possibility.

As always... We are looking for handy arrangers and composers of music made free of copyright to swell the FMFK database.

    Coming soon to FMFK

"Maynard - The Hip Hop Haggis
    "

A Fusion between Brass Band and your local traditional fiddle group.
For sure... Brass Bands can play 'anything'
but Brass excels in certain area's as do stringed instruments.
    Lets be inclusive not exclusive
    :)

It would be useful in the SA if templates for both General/Festival Series and Triumph series existed.

Could you expand on the differences please :)..

I did not know there were differences within scores in the SA movement.
Would these be 3 different templates ?

If the MuseScore developers do not include SA Templates alongside a Brass Band template I would be happy to create them for the SA and place them on the FMFK site.

    Note:
MuseScore asked me what to call the template for Brass Bands.
    I decided on
"UK Brass Band (Saxhorn)" describing both layout and instrument range.

    I will try :

Festival/General Series are the same format :

    Sop Cor
    Solo Cor
    1st Cor
    2nd Cor
    Flugel Horn
    Solo Horn
    1st Horn
    2nd Horn
    1st Bar
    2nd Bar
    1st Trom
    2nd Trom
    Bass Trom
    Euph
    E Bass
    B Bass
    Percussion

    Triumph Series :

    Sop Cor
    Solo/1st Cor (Same single part)
    2nd Cor
    Flugel Horn
    Solo1st Horn (Same single part)
    2nd Horn
    1st Bar
    2nd Bar
    1st Trom
    2nd Trom
    Bass Trom
    Euph
    E Bass
    B Bass
    Percussion

Also on both formats the Percussion parts are written on a standard 5 line stave (occasionally with a 2nd percussion stave in festival series)

Im sure if SA templates are not included in the MuseScore distribution I will certainly make these templates available on the FMFK site.

Additional to the instrument name changes and combinations on the same staff, would any other heading text be appreciated other than to denote the SA Series ? a universal contact for the SA perhaps ?

Also, are there any world wide variations within the SA movement of instrument types ?

I will get to work on this over the next weeks

    thanks

I have discussed with the MuseScore developers the possability of SA templates....
No promices but they could be included (would help if there were more significant differences between the UK Brass Band and the SA templates such as SA specific subtitle text such as SA contacts/officialdome etc.)

FMFK have received a wonderful Euphonium Feature
Lochaber No More - by Chris Brown
FMFK is well represented by contributing Scottish composers,
Chris Brown certainly contributing some very fine works to the national database
    .

FMFK is a amature banding resource
This music (and all at FMFK) is free to download, print and play.
We are always looking for new contributors :) to give a little back.

There isnt a single name as the appointee may change, but basically responsibility for Army music comes under the remit of the individual territories. Here in the UK a contact with SP&S (World of Brass is part of SP&S) sould be sufficient.

I know that Mr Woodman, who has responsibility for these matters at SP & S does have a presence on this site. Perhaps he would like to comment?

The Salvation Army templates have been provided to the MuseScore developer responsible for the release cycle of MuseScore 1.2
As has the UK Brass Band template.
Thanks Mr Price... Don't know if they will make it in or not until its released as the layout is obviously so similar to the UK Brass Band template.
The Developers wanted to keep things as simple as possible as well... fingers crossed its in though.
