From the RAH thread, thought I would start this off.

No rumours yet, but I'm sure that won't stop us making some stuff up!

Heard a rumour that it's likely to be Daphnis and Chloe.

Lets see if I get it correct like the areas this year lol

I think it will be a pot pourri of pieces.

C Section new piece by Lucy Pankhurst
1st Section new piece (or not so new) by Marcus Venables
2nd Section Rhapsody in Brass Goffin
3rd Section New piece by Anno Draconis
    4th Section Tintagel D Wright

    That's my 4/5th of sixpence ;)

There will be a Goff Richards piece in there somewhere, and I think that the 4th section just might get OCEANS. Some very competent bands in it ie, Burbage, Darwen, and others of more than the usual 4th section standard.

4th section bands will be glad that you are not on the music panel!

That's why the thread is called rumours/thoughts, and not name the test pieces ;)

Just not Yellow music in the Third section please - I've four shed builders to keep entertained!

@adamskied - I'd heard new piece in the "top again" after the success of PLC to keep bums on seats listening. . .

I don't necessarily hold with the old music = no part for carpentry section logic. Rienzi needs five players at a minimum, and that's an ages old transcription of an ages old overture!

Fair point - Lets say a percussion heavy piece then :)

I'm sure he'd copy/paste another quick masterpiece if we all asked nicely ;)

Would love to hear one of Peter Meechan's pieces at London - I like how his music suits a variety of tastes. There are wonderful chord structures, sounds, and is technically challenging enough to put the best of bands to test without it seeming like a mathematical exercise. :D

Some 4th section bands would be delighted ! I can think of at least two. However, they both have a good number of ex-championship players (thats a rumour, not a thought!)
  19. I can't see a problem with that, they have to be registered with the band to play in the area/finals. Also, one (or even 2 or 3) top class player won't make a 4 section band into definite winners or world beaters.

Well yes, clearly. We won the Leamington 4th section with Warwick University in 1997 on the piece by several clear points (a gasp went round the auditorium at the announcement "Band xxx will play 'Oceans'"). But even at finals level, not many 4th section bands would get anywhere near it. I was slightly surprised to see it set at 3rd section finals level in 2009 - I remember it being a decent challenge for the 2nd section areas in 1993.
