Interesting own choice pieces this year: no double choice and two new commisions (I think).
I also hear that the test piece is great as well, one of Van der Roost's best compositions so far... (according to some people that have been rehearsing it)

Roost's work is allways interesting on my opinion.

I wonder what Cory's going to play this year..

Not it's not. tMP Rules state:

    2. Content: Please do not post topics or replies or PM's containing:
    (g) Comments that could be deemed inappropriate or unfair regarding any person, band, contest or competition. i.e. own choice test pieces, pre-drawn contests, closed own choice adjudications etc common sense prevails

Good to see a new Hermann Pallhuber piece there - Spirits of Puccini - if it is anything close to Titans Progress it will be amazing.

Does anyone have a list of B Section own choice music?

B stands for "Better" of course. We're not lower standard than "A" (which stands for "Ah we're not quite as good as those Better guys"), honest ;).

Will you be there as well Kirsty?
I am going to listen on Saturday for the Own Choice pieces and the B-section
And on Thursday I will be going to the composer's competition as well, because our local band (the NLBB) will be playing the pieces.

Aye, we play with Drogheda, who are playing in the B section. Please make allowances for my bass trombone playing if you actually manage to hear me ;-). Would be great to meet you, Jan, and any other tMPers that are heading to Oostende also!

Think we're travelling on the Thursday during the day, and coming home on the Sunday, so a few opportunities for meeting people. I must make sure to pack my tMP polo shirt ;).

Any idea how much the carnyx is used throughout the piece?

I'm still chuckling at 4BR's comment that it is of Roman origin when it is Celtic/Pictish. I wonder if John Kenny knows about the test-piece?

I'll ask Ivan (who will be conducting Rijnmond in Oostende) at our concert on Saturday ;)

But if I understand correctly, the "from ancient times" does not refer to Roman times, but instead to the period of the Flemish Renaissance music (ca. 16th century, composers like Josquin Desprez, Guillaume Dufay, Johannes Ockegem and Orlando Lassus), but I don't know if any direct quotes are used

Has anyone an idea why there are two Austrian bands competing? (A- and B- section). In the past this was usually only for the organising country (eg Phoenix WM playing in Birmingham 2 years ago).

Is there maybe a rule that lets the previous winner return or something?

    for the A-section, yes.
The B-section was won by the Italian band last year.

Shows you I didn't go last year ;-). That's odd, then. I wonder why they have 2 entries, indeed.
