This year sees the Dobcross Silver Band celebrating its 130th anniversary. To mark this historic occasion the band will be holding a number of events through out the rest of the year culminating in a Gala/Reunion Concert which is to be held in the Uppermill Civic Hall at the beginning of November. More details about this concert will be announced within the coming months but the band would like to see a band made up of former players for the first half followed by the current band in the second half finishing with a massed bands for the finale. To start our celebrations though, the band will be holding a 130th Anniversary Weekend beginning on the 19th of June. The band will be holding a free outdoor concert on Church Fields (venue for the famous Dobcross Whit Friday Contest) where it is hoped that people will bring picnics and enjoy the party atmosphere. In conjunction with the concert, the band will be holding an exhibition of photos, videos and memorabilia connected with the band and the movement in general. This will be displayed in various venues around the area throughout the next few months. Although we have many more recent photographs and paintings, we are in short supply of older material. If anyone can help by loaning any pictures or artefacts, then we would be extremely grateful. The Celebration concert on Church Fields will be held from 14:00pm to 16:00pm. If anyone can help with our request for any artefacts or you are interested in playing or attending the Reunion concert then please contact Alan Hodgkinson on 07940 856977.
