Today the test pieces for this year's Belgian National Championships have been announced. Traditionally the championships will be held at the end of November in the concert hall of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. These are the pieces, selected by last year's jury:

    - Championship Section: Devil and the deep blue Sea, Derek Bourgeois
    - 1st divison: Blackfriars, Eric Cundell
    - 2nd division: Renaissance, Peter Graham
    - 3rd division: The Call of the Righteous, Leslie Condon

All participants will also have to play an own choice piece.

Well from what i can see 2 of them are just mouth watering pieces
Devil&Deep Blue Sea>Blackfrias glad to see that been used as a test piece again, it would make a brilliant 1st section regional test piece for next year(HINT,HINT,HINT):tup

Good to see "Blackfriars" getting a outing as well - a fine piece that seems to have been unduly overlooked in the past.

I don't know the piece, but I was doing some searches on tMP earlier today, and I found that it was mentioned a few times in threads such as "what test piece do you hate the most"and "which test piece should be chuffed away forever". So apparently there are some mixed feelings about this piece...

Does anybody know of any good recordings (I already found out that it's on one of the Virtuosi Brass band of GB CD's)

The only other version I've got is by the Kew Band on their cd "Sirius": I'm sure there will have been others in the past, but they may not have made it onto cd.

Sirius is the only listing we have for a recording of Blackfriars in our current catalogue.

We were pleased to see that two of our publications, Renaissance and The Call of the Righteous, had be selected for two of the sections.

I'm not a mod, but maybe it's better to restrict any possible discussions to this thread ??? I will also try to post the results there as quickly as possible.
or if somebody else can do it earlier then me, that's fine too...)
