I reckon a Non-English band will win it...

    1) Buy As You View Band
    2) Fodens Richardson Band
    3) Hepworth (Persimmon Homes) Band
    4) Sellers International Band

Would have put Sellers 3rd, but they've lost La Refridgeratore, plus Id like to see two geezas in Hepworth do well, they both deserve it...

seconded here with you but would put BAYV infront of FODENS.
I cant see anyone beating BOB CHILDS &BAYV with the players he as got in the band at the moment.
But i am not going to the contest as i do not like the test piece thry have picked plus i think they could have picked something else as they have used this before.
Its only my opinion but i hope all the bands have a great day and may the best band win:clap:

I'm not going down for the contest...

Havent a clue who's gonna win, but I wish all the bands the very best for the contest...
    However, my dodgy predictions are:

    Scottish Co.

Could be a close one though out of ^those lot....
    Good luck!

Tough one this. In a strange sort of way I hope an English band don't win it!!!!!!! Don't ask me why - just a feeling. Anyway, my dodgy predictions are:

    1) Brass Band Willebroek
    2) Buy As You View
    3) Reg Vardy
    4) Fodens
    5) Scottish Co-Op
    6) Redbridge

    I will be there.

I will also be at the Beer Festival on Saturday along with a few others so maybe we should start a thread...........oh!! there is one already. Sorry. See you on Saturday 28th.

It looks like a list of top bands to me, can't wait to have a pop at them. Critic only said 'Some top bands' anyway?

    Hope you are right BBCbari!

It should be a good contest but looking at the line up this year there is no question in my mind that the contest is perhaps in decline when you compare it to the line up for the open for example. The masters used to draw a lot more of the so called "big bands" in previous years. Just my own opinion.

As much as those bands are good quality bands, the list just doesn't seem to have the sparkle it used to have when it was actually an "All England" competition... Still going to be a tough one to win though, so good luck. I think BAYV will take it...

I think if you compare the Masters to the Nationals, it compares quite favourably as far as number of top bands (I'll go with top 20 - since each contest has about 20 bands) and competition....I really think there are more bands that have a chance to win this than bands that have a chance to win Nationals.

Here is the list with 4BR Rankings

    2005 MASTERS
3 Buy As You View Band
    4 Fodens Richardson Band
    7 Scottish Co-op Band
    9 Sellers International Band
    11 Tredegar Town Band
    12 Reg Vardy Band
    13 Hepworth (Persimmon Homes) Band
    15 Kirkintilloch Band
    16 Brass Band Willebroek
    17 Flowers Band
    18 Travelsphere Holidays Band
    20 Ransome Band
    22 BTM Band
    26 Rothwell Temperance Band
29 Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band
    39 Aveley & Newham Band
    45 SWT Woodfalls Band
    50 Redbridge Brass
109 1st Old Boys Association Silver Band

    2005 NATIONALS
    1 Black Dyke
    2 YBS
    3 BAYV
    5 Grimethorpe
    6 Fairey
    8 Whitburn
    10 Brighouse & Rastrick
    12 Reg Vardy Band
    14 Leyland
    22 BTM
    23 Desford Colliery
    24 Cwmaman Institute
    28 Newtongrange Silver
    39 Aveley & Newham Band
    43 Wooley Pritchard Sovereign
    50 Redbridge Brass
    54 Bournemouth
    59 BHK Horden
    63 Tavistock Chester-le-Street Riverside
    66 St. Austell Town

I'll admit...the rankings aren't the absolute truth, but IMHO the discepency is large enough to show the opposite.

If you go total (AVG as there are only 19 Bands at the Masters) rankings it is
    Nationals AVG RANKING 26.6
    Master AVG RANKING 24.4

Getting rid of the two highest and lowest (to eliminate those that skew the results) you get
    Nationals AVG RANKING 25.0
    Master AVG RANKING 19.9

    No. of top ten bands
    Nationals 7
    Masters 4

    No. of top 20 bands
    Nationals 9
    Masters 12

No of Bands outside the top 50
    Nationals 4
    Masters 1

So as I see it...the Masters will be much more competitive and is only behind the Nationals in 1 category

This contest is the future!! It can get the best European bands (like the European Championships - and hopefully some US,NZand Aussie Bands -, but isn't limited to only 3 or 4 UK bands, allowing it to possibly more than Kerkrade become a proper World Championship)
