Can anyone tell me where cannon fire effects can be bought for an outdoor performance of 1812?

Back in my regular playing days with the City of Coventry Band, we often used theatrical explosive devices, set up in a non-flammable dustbin and detonated by a car battery.

I can't find anything like this anywhere.

    Cheers, Ian Scott

Go for an electronic solution - Jonathan Chappell (who plays in a few bands in our area) does this to great effect. I'm surer the pro percussion guys can point you in the right direction

I once did the 1812 at a concert many years ago and the cannon effects went wrong. The boom was deafening, some jumped, others ducked and the building shook. Saying that it was late 70 early 80s so well before health and safety laws :)
