Valentines day is coming and the shops are full of red fluffy things and cards decaring your undying love for partners/future partners/past partners/future partners/bits on the side etc

I am a dead romantic guy when i wanna be but i have many issues with Feb 14th. I am firmly of the view it is too commercial and simply a good little earner for shops after the january sales. If you dont love someone the other 364 days of the year then why try harder on this day. Why not go all out and have a national i like you day as well for the people who dont fall into your loved category just to earn a few more pennies.

    What does everyone else think?

I'm completely with you on this one Steve - it's all far too commercial. There are loads of ways to show you care without falling into the marketing trap that Valentine's Day has become. Both my girlfriend and I have agreed that a card is fine for 14/02 but that's it. I'd much rather do something completely unexpected to let her know how much I love her.

I agree, romantic jestures are for when you want to not when you have ben told to show someone you love them.

Valentines day is just another excuse to give us guys a guilt trip if your with that kinda girl...(I'm not if yr reading) but i'm sure we all have been in the past.

Still, i'm sure she'll still be getting a card..ha ha

Remember the good ol' days when it was absoluitely wonderful when someone gave you a home made card that probably looked like crap, but came from the heart?????

Or when one rose was romantic, not 6 dozens or whatever!

they're still charging 20 quid for one rose though..

I remember in primary school when we'd spend the afternoon before making valentines cards for our "mummies" to take home the next day.

Shops didn't make a penny out of us, and we had fun playing and making a mess!

I'm afraid i've voted for romantic, I personally ignore all of the commercial stuff and concentrate on making it a special day for the other half!
I agree the commercial side is appalling, but as I tend to ignore it i've gone for the other option!

Why the embarrassed smiley? It's good you have someone you care about enough to make it special :D

Nothing wrong with us guys being romantic!

But why on this day in particular? Should it not be voluntary and as either an everyday occurence or as a suprise? How can a valentines day romantic suprise be a suprise when it has been staring at you on the calender since the end of January?

Hmm, true. We should all do this everyday, but it's just one of those things where you have a day where you can really make it special for another person, which obviously you can do whenever, but it's just like a birthday, mother's day etc. The idea is just to make sure you take a little more thought into appreciating someone else, and show them how much you care.

what with it being another single year, i'm going to try and be as sinical (sp?) as possible, and moan about how commercial everything is, and how men in magazines drive me to depression...
