Doug McKechnie
Brought up in a brass banding
family (father and brother on bass and sister on cornet) began playing
tenor
horn at the age of 12 (with Bathgate Public Band. Within 2 years had
moved to
senior band (4th Section, Scotland) and held the position of Solo Horn
for next
10 years during which time Bathgate progressed to 2nd Section.
On
moving to England with a new job I joined City
of Oxford Silver band (Champs Section) on Solo Horn then moved back
North (a
bit) to Northwich and joined Barnton Silver Band on 1st then
Solo
Horn. Decided to get a bit more serious
and joined Roberts Bakery on Solo Horn then changed to Euph.
Had
a 2-year break from banding to spend more time
with my family until Steve Yates “persuaded” me to rejoin Barnton on Eb
Bass!! Returned to the horn section and
played Solo for a few years until a “gap” appeared in the Euph section
and I am
still happily filling that gap.
